How Fraction Calculator is Calculated
This calculator uses the formula: a/b + c/d = (ad + bc) / bd | a/b × c/d = ac / bd. Where Simplify by dividing numerator and denominator by their GCD. For addition/subtraction, find common denominator. For multiplication, multiply straight across. All calculations run entirely in your browser — no data is transmitted to any server.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add fractions with different denominators?
Find the LCM of denominators, convert both fractions, then add numerators. 2/3 + 3/4: LCM(3,4) = 12. Convert: 8/12 + 9/12 = 17/12 = 1 5/12.
How do I convert a fraction to a decimal?
Divide numerator by denominator. 3/8 = 0.375. Some fractions give repeating decimals: 1/3 = 0.333..., 1/7 = 0.142857142857... Only fractions with denominators having only 2 and 5 as prime factors give terminating decimals.
