Energy Converter
Convert between joules, calories, kWh, BTU, and electron volts. Covers food energy, electricity, and physics energy units.
What is Energy Converter?
This energy converter translates between joules, kilojoules, calories, kilocalories (food Calories), kilowatt-hours (electricity), BTU, and electron volts. Bridges the gap between physics, nutrition, and everyday electricity measurements.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your Value, From in the input fields provided
- Results are computed instantly as you enter or modify values — no need to click a button
- Review the computed output showing your energy results with a detailed breakdown
- Copy the converted value or try additional unit combinations — the conversion factor is shown for reference
How Energy Converter is Calculated
This calculator uses the formula: Convert to Joules, then to target unit. Where 1 kWh = 3,600,000 J ; 1 cal = 4.184 J ; 1 BTU = 1055.06 J. Joule is the SI unit of energy. 1 kWh is what your electricity meter measures. All calculations run entirely in your browser — no data is transmitted to any server.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a calorie and a Calorie?
Lowercase calorie (cal): energy to heat 1g water by 1°C. Uppercase Calorie (Cal or kcal): 1,000 cal — this is what food labels use. A "300 Calorie" meal is actually 300,000 calories (300 kcal).
How do I relate kWh to everyday use?
1 kWh = running a 1,000W appliance for 1 hour. Examples: 1 kWh ≈ 4 hours of ceiling fan, 1 hour of iron, 30 minutes of AC, 10 hours of LED bulb. At ₹7/kWh, each unit costs ₹7.
